Nancy asks…

cold virus…?

If someone with a cold touches a door handle after they have been sneezing and transfers the virus to the handle, how long can the virus last? Does it also depend on temperature?
Also, can the virus live on clothes?

I think it can last for a couple of days on surfaces like doorknobs, and even longer on sponges or towels.

Lizzie Your questions about cold virus

Lizzie asks…

what’s the difference between having a cold and catching a cold virus?

Whereas I keep warm in winter I won’t catch a cold but if I don’t wear proper clothes to keep me warm I may end up with a cold. However doctors say you can catch the cold virus in the air by breathing. It has never happened to me to catch a virus by breathing only when I do not protect enough myself from cold. The same happens with children, my children don’t care about covering themselves in winter and they catch a cold but Doctor says is cold virus. I don’t understand how can they catch a cold virus if I know they have a cold because don’t wear enough warm clothes?

Neil Walker answers:

I think it’s the same thing…And the coldness outside can lower your immunity and make you more suseptible to a cold…but I NEVER get sick and this is why:

PLEASE try these 3 remedies…EVERY time I feel run-down or get that tickly feeling in my throat I take these 3 things and it NEVER turns into a full-blown cold.

1) Olive Leaf Extract by “Herb Pharm”….it’s in liquid form, and has no side effects…it immediately goes to work to kill any viruses in you…and it’s all natural.

2) “JarrowDophilus”, by “Jarrow Formulas”…it will keep the healthy “flora” in your body in perfect balance which keeps your immune system strong.

3) “Emergen-C” Vitamin C packets by “Alacer”

All three can be purchased at “Whole Foods Market”, possibly “Trader Joe’s”, or call your local health food store to inquire about these 3 products.

EVERY friend and family member who has taken this advice, hardly ever gets sick.

For your throat: “Peaceful Mountain–Throat Rescue”
You will NEVER find a more powerful throat spray which is all-natural….soothing, fast acting, and kills bad bacteria on contact.

Cayenne Pepper in capsules (or sprinkled on soup) helps greatly with congestion AND is also an immune systen booster too….and drink lots of organic green tea to help your energy levels.

Lisa Your questions about cold virus

Lisa asks…

How do you actually catch a cold: being outside in cold or virus?

I’m trying to put this question to rest. My mother always is paranoid about my son getting cold or being covered so he doesn’t catch a cold outside in the elements. But then, on the other side of the spectrum, I’ve heard that you can’t catch a cold from ‘cold weather’. They say you catch a cold because in winter you’re indoors more, trapped inside with people circulating Rhino-viruses.

And I’ve also heard that being in the cold weakens your immune system, so you’re more susceptible to catching a cold virus.

So which is it? I’m confused.

Please tell me what your stance on this is. Thank you!

me125x125 cropped Your questions about cold virus

Neil Walker answers:

1) Myth: You can catch the flu or a cold from going outdoors in cold weather.

Fact: The flu and colds are more common in the winter months because that is when the viruses spread across the country. It has nothing to do with being outside in cold weather.

2) The “common cold” is misleading since the illness has nothing to do with cold weather. Certain viruses that cause the common cold tend to be more active in the winter and school year, which misleads people into associating this illness with climate or temperature. Colds occur in warm, southern climates as well. I see plenty of people with cold infections in the summer time.

Colds are caused by viral infections requiring contact with a sick person. They are not influenced by cold weather nor being improperly dressed.

Many myths still exist about catching colds that are incorrect. Changes in weather and dampness may affect someone’s arthritis but will not cause a cold. Going outside with a wet head or getting wet in the rain cannot cause any infection at all. Bundling up will not prevent a cold nor will it help the cold to go away.

Paul Your questions about cold virus

Paul asks…

How can I kill a cold virus while it is still in my tonsils?

I have that tell tale sign of an oncoming head cold – the swollen aching tonsils. Are their any good remedies for killing off the virus before it spread to my nose and throat?

me125x125 cropped Your questions about cold virus

Neil Walker answers:

One of my favorite “Uh, oh, I might be getting sick” remedies is to take a cup of tomato juice or spicy bloody mary mix (no vodka), heat it up and add about 1/2 a tsp. of Cayenne pepper. It’s pretty hot and it doesn’t taste great, but for some reason, it tends to open up your nasal passages and relieves the early warnings of a sore throat. The Listerine and hydrogen peroxide will probably help too. Drink lots of fluids, take vitamin c and a couple zinc lozenges. You’ll beat it!!
