Mary asks…
Is it possible for a 20 year old to earn a high school degree at home without doing it online?
My cousin is a 20 year old single mother with a 1 year old little boy. She would like to finish getting her high school degree but can’t go to class because she works full time and can’t afford to have someone watch him if she were to go to night classes. (her boyfriend watches him during the day). She doesn’t have internet and was wondering if it is possible to earn it at home, similar to home schooling?

Neil Walker answers:
Well I could be wrong, but at this age I think she can only go for her GED. I believe if you have dropped out of high school and are over 18 you need to get a GED. In which case should could study at home for the exam.

Sharon asks…
Are online/ *earn your degree at home* classes worth the money?
Do employers respect degrees/ certificates from online/ study at home schools? I ask because Im trying to decide between online classes or one of those 10 month career colleges for pharmacy technition

Neil Walker answers:
In a word, NO. Your college education should be well-rounded. Even a 10-month course will give you some exposure to other subjects, people, interpersonal communication, etc. You also get other invaluable things with going to college – making friends, making industry contacts, better career placement, etc.
As far as employers, your education is only part of the equation. You need some job experience and you need to get into interviews and ace them. You need a well-written resume and a professional presentation / demeanor.
Good luck.

Richard asks…
Are those correspondence schools where you earn a certificate or degree at home worth it?
If you are an employer, would you hire a person with a degree or certificate from one of those home correspndence schools? Or has anyone that ever earned a degree or certificate through one of them ever gotten a decent job because of it?

Neil Walker answers:
My friend has two. It has done nothing for him. It seems kinda worthless to me.
